An annual event that our staff’s children look
forward to every year is Kids’ Day.
The children come to CKM for a fun-filled day of games, prizes, crafts,
food, and fun! Emma and Abby Duttry,
who have been coming to Kid’s day for many years, came up with the idea of
having an Olympic theme. This year
Emma, Abby, Michael Zaffuto, and Ashley Krajewski were “team leaders” for our
Olympics. Our teams, Rushmore Red,
Everglades Green, Grand Canyon Gold, and Appalachian Blue, competed in
different events throughout the day but all the children were winners. Our residents were very content to watch the
children play. The end of the day the
kids were presented with a certificate and an engraved medal as a keepsake of
this year’s events.

GREY KNIGHTS DRUM & BUGLE CORPS
The members of the Grey Knights Drum and Bugle Corps took time out of
their busy day to perform for our residents before their appearance in the
DuBois Fireman’s Parade. Their home
base is in Johnsonburg but their members are scattered throughout Pennsylvania
and New York. They perform at various
festivities throughout the US. Don
Speaker originally scheduled the performance at CKM for one of our residents,
Don McGonigal. Don is the current
president of the corps and two of his sons are also members. It was a beautiful day and a spectacular
performance with over 50 residents in attendance and many outside guests.

MAY CROWNING
Monica Bobal led our residents in song and prayer during our May Crowning on May 2. Jim Puhala had the honor of crowning the Blessed Mother.
SPIRIT BOUND
Al and Karen Hewitt, owners of Advanced Furniture Solutions in DuBois, form an entertainment duet called Spirit Bound. They came to Christ The King in April and again on May 16 during National Nursing Home week. Their unique blend of gospel music, classic hits, and folk music, mixed with comedy and storytelling kept our residents attentive and laughing. We all certainly enjoyed them and look forward to seeing them soon.

MAKING WORK FUN
Bethany Hoover has fun taking Betty Connor for her daily walk! Yevonna Graham helps out pushing the wheelchair but Betty can go quite far before she needs to sit down!
FIRE SAFETY REVIEWED AT RESIDENT COUNCIL
Lee Haag, safety director at Christ The King, gave a
presentation during the April resident council meeting on fire safety. He reviewed our fire policy and informed the
council that staff at CKM are required to attend a “Fire Safety and Disaster
Preparedness” in service training session annually to ensure everyone is
educated in this area. In addition,
regular fire drills are held to ensure the procedure works well. Lee held a question and answer session
afterward. Mary Shaffer, president of
the resident council, concluded the session, stating “No resident should worry
if they don’t know what to do in case of a fire. All of the staff know exactly what to do and will take care of us if there is a fire.” Pictured are Lee
Haag, Mary Shaffer, and Justine Bowser, dietary manager.
