THE ENTERTAINMENT NEVER ENDS!

A band new to Christ the King made its second appearance late in August.  Jam & Tango, a country rock band, were introduced to us when Jam Williamson’s mother was admitted to CKM.  Our residents loved hearing the classic tunes of Johnny Cash, Jimmy Buffett, Merle Haggard, CCR, and more.  They play professionally and can be reached at 236-3786.  We are looking forward to their next performance on September 29th at 7:00 pm - so if you have the time, please join us!

Pictured are Jerry Secco from Weedville, Tango Haviland and JM Williamson from St. Marys.

HEARTSTRINGS

We were blessed by the performance and message of HEARTSTRINGS, a musical family group from Beavertown, PA.  They are the extended family of the Blowers, a singing family we have seen weekly for many years here at CKM.  We were enthralled with the presence of love and dedication to God this family possessed.  They credit their exceptional talent to their faith and as a group they were a bell choir and vocal choir.  They also played violin, viola, flute, and keyboard.   Craig and Joella Bradford, the parents, playfully call themselves the “Bell”fords. They have passed their talents to their five children, 13 year old Susanna; Charity, 11; Ethan, 8; Johathan, 4; and the littlest Bradford, Laura at only two years old sang “Yes, Jesus Loves Me” with her siblings.  They were an inspiration to everyone present and we thank them for traveling over 100 miles to share their music with us.

KID'S DAY 2014

The annual Kid’s day this year was one of our best.  Organized by our activities department, our staff is invited to sign up their kids to be part of a fun-filled day of food, games, crafts, prizes, and much more.  Friendship is the name of the most important game we play and this year the kids were exceptional.  The Luau theme was carried forward from National Nursing Home week and proved to be as much fun the second time around!  From Hawaiian games, refreshments, food, crafts, and adornments, everyone had a blast.  The weather was beautiful and the crowd was too.  Thank you for all who helped and participated.

CKM GARDEN

The activities garden flourished this year and we are still reaping the benefits.  The activities staff and residents have been cooking up savory, delectable, once a year treats from the garden.  Fried cabbage and noodles, fried zucchini, fried green tomatoes, tomato sandwiches, cucumber salads, stuffed green and banana peppers, and cups of cherry and grape tomatoes.
Yum, yum, yum….more to come!

RESIDENT STILL ACTIVE IN THE COMMUNITY AT AGE 94!

Betty Betta was joined at Christ the King by members of the Daughters of the American Revolution for their July meeting.  While planning the meeting, members thought it would be nice to have it at the manor to make it easier for Betty to attend and also to surprise her by celebrating her upcoming 94th birthday. The DAR is an organization whose membership is limited to ancestry of the Revolutionary War.  Their objectives are to maintain historical preservation, provide education, and provide our current veterans with patriotic volunteer service and Betty is extremely proud to be an active part of the organization. If you are interested in joining, please call Elaine Styche at 814-787-8227.

"CKM FAMILY RECIPES"

Pat Day, a resident in our rehab unit, and Trish Hopkins, OT, are pictured with the beginnings of a wonderfully tasty cookbook…”CKM Family Recipes.”  One of the fun activities occupational therapy does is to establish the resident’s ability to use the kitchen.  Trish came up with the idea to put together a cookbook of the tried and true recipes her residents share with the therapy unit. She hopes to add more and more as she meets and cares for new people.  If you have something to share with her, please do!

SPECIAL VOLUNTEER

Tom Berryhill is a most valued volunteer at CKM.  He has been coming here since 2010 when his wife, Sonja, was admitted to our Memory Support Unit.  He was here six days a week caring for her and helping out wherever needed in MSU. Tom quickly became respected and loved by residents and staff.  After his beloved wife passed away in October of 2013 he continued to visit and volunteer for the people he grew to know and love.  Tom comes to Christ The King Monday, Wednesday, and Friday each week. He shares his time with MSU and the activities department in our skilled unit but he doesn't limit himself to those units or times.  Tom will come whenever and wherever he is needed – all you need to do is ask for his help.  Tom also is a key contributor and volunteer for our team to “Walk to end Alzheimer’s” with a goal this year to raise $2,000 himself!
