It is that time of year again and the elf's in our Activity Department are hard at work decking the halls of the Manor.
When visiting loved ones, be sure to stop and admire our beautiful Nativity Set at the front entrance. Last year Kim McMonagle, Activities Director, was instrumental in creating this beautiful scene with the help of her husband Keith, who built the stable. It is again proudly displayed this year.
Stay tuned........many more pictures to follow of our glorious decorations which are currently being hung through out the Manor!!!

Annual Fall Festival
On Sunday November 1, 2009, Christ the King Manor once again hosted its annual Fall Resident and Family Gathering. Residents from The Cottages, Personal Care, Skilled Care, Memory Support, Adult Day Care and Home Support were invited as well as all of their families. There were over 500 reservations making this the highest attended festival to date. Tables were set up in our main dining room, employee dining room, Personal Care Unit and Memory Support Units to accommodate everyone. Joe Serafini provided some wonderful music with his accordion. A delicious lunch of homemade chili, wedding and potato soups were served as well as sandwich trays with all the fixings. The desserts were the hit of the afternoon and they were plentiful. The apple cider was a pure taste of Fall. All children attending received individual treat bags and we even held a "guess the weight of the pumpkin" contest. All adults got to sign up for some wonderful fall door prizes. It was an enjoyable afternoon, especially for our residents whose families live out of town and they don't get to see them that often.

Alzheimer's Associaton's Second Annual Memory Walk
The second annual Memory Walk was held on September 19, 2009, in the DuBois City Park. There were about 150 people in attendance and Christ the King Manor has the largest team with almost 30 people! More than double the size of last years team. Amanda Choura, Billing Specialist and Charlene Volansky, Director of Development, served on the local advisory committee that met once a month since March to plan the walk. Christ the King held various fund raisers; a bake sale, jeans days and a lottery tree raffle to raise over $3,000 for the Alzheimer's Association. Walkers on our team also received individual sponsorships which helped us not only meet but exceed our goal. The total goal for the walk was $15,000 and over $26,000 was actually raised giving the DuBois Memory Walk the honor of being noted as a Star Walk by the Alzheimer's Association.

CHRIST THE KING MANOR CELEBRATES HOMECOMING WEEK
Residents and staff at Christ The King Manor celebrated homecoming week with AAHSA, the American Association of Health and Services for the Aging. AAHSA supports non-profit organizations and chose the week beginning Memorial Day, May 25 thru May 29 to celebrate who we are and what we do. CKM had a week filled with fun events for the residents as well as the staff and below are pictures from highlights of the week.
The staff was honored with special meals, gifts, and a presentation of over 100 gift certificates from various local businesses. Each day something special was planned. The staff also joined our residents in several activities. Friday we held an ice cream social where over 15 gallons of ice cream was served! Mix that with yummy strawberries, caramel, chocolate, oodles of whipped cream, cherries and nuts, no wonder so many came. Also, a bake sale was organized and $360 was raised which we are donating to the American Cancer Society.
The residents also had a week filled with special activities. Monday we held our annual balloon launch. Our balloon bunches had cards attached asking the receivers to send us note letting us know where they were found. We have already received two responses, one from Spring Mills, PA, and one from Pleasant Gap, PA. Thank you to our responders! Monday afternoon we had a Memorial Day picnic with residents and their families. Hot dogs, watermelon, and lemonade were served and the event brought back memories to many of our people. A grilled hot dog is always a special treat, no matter what your age.
A special Memorial Mass was held where we honored our deceased residents. The choir from Central Catholic Schools joined us to provide music during the mass. Not only was the music a treat; seeing the children was heartwarming to our residents. Family members were invited to carry a carnation to the alter in memory of their deceased loved ones.
Homecoming BINGO was a popular event and we gave away bags of chocolate and lottery tickets! Not many winners, but everyone had fun. We also held an awards ceremony where we announced and distributed over 200 awards. Each resident received a personalized, laminated award recognizing something special about his or her individuality. Some laughed and some cried, but no one refused their certificate!
Dale Luthringer, an environmental educational specialist from Cook Forest State Park, came to CKM to provide our residents with a fun and educational demonstration. Our residents were in wonderment as they saw Dale carry in his mounts and calls, but soon learned what he was up to. Over 75 people watched, listened, and learned as he explained when, why and how our native animals made their calls. Thanks to Dale for a fun alternative to traditional activities.
Our flowers were planted and a victory garden was planned but we are waiting until our resident farmers give us the okay!
Thanks to all who made this week a great one.
