ST. MARY'S CCD STUDENTS VISIT CKM

CCD students from St. Mary's Church in Reynoldsville made 160 valentines for our residents.  Their efforts combined with the fact that several of them came to Christ The King to personally deliver as many as they could made it an extra special Valentine's Day this year.

CKM WEEKLY LOTTERY

A new activity was introduced this year that is fun for all of our residents, even those who do not regularly attend group activities.  Tonia Duttry came up with the idea to have a CKM lottery to fairly give away some wonderful gifts that are donated to Christ The King over the holidays and throughout the year.  Every Tuesday and Thursday a resident’s name is drawn as the winner of the CKM Lottery.  So far 11 prizes have been given away and will continue as long as we have the gifts to give.  So, if you have something in your home you may consider to be a white elephant, remember, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure!

Richard Hiles is our most recent winner of a plush lap
blanket presented by Robin Badger and Tonia Duttry.

RESIDENTS LOVE TO HELP WHEN THEY CAN

Several of our residents look for "jobs" to help out the staff at CKM.  Rose Camise was anxious to watch the Chapel get decorated for Christmas and offered to help by removing the paper from the beautiful poinsettias that adorned the alter.  It sure made the process go a lot quicker...you know what they say...Many hands make light work!

DELICIOUS THERAPY ASSIGNMENTS!

Lillian Ponzi and Helen Peterson are very diligent about doing an A+ job during their occupational therapy session of baking chocolate chip cookies. Everyone in the therapy room benefited from their hard work!

OUTSIDE CHARITIES BENEFIT FROM THE GENEROSITY OF CKM STAFF AND RESIDENTS

Robin Bish, Assistant Director of Nursing, has a passion for helping others.  She involves herself in many fund raising campaigns to include the Alzheimer’s Association and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.  Her most recent campaign is to collect aluminum tabs to benefit the Ronald McDonald House, an organization that provides a “home away from home” for families who need to be near their injured or seriously ill children while they are being treated in hospitals.  With the help of staff, residents, and other sources outside the manor, Robin organized the collection of over 55 pounds of aluminum tabs!  The residents at CKM are always willing to help out with various fundraisers and this was no exception.  It has developed into an ongoing project for the residents because it is something easy, fun, and rewarding to do.  Pictured below is Robin with Albert Beck, a resident from our skilled unit, and a photo of Donna Beck, Louise Rutkowski, and Madolene Ferut, residents from our personal care unit with their collection.  If you wish to help out just collect your tabs and drop them off at the reception area at your convenience.  Thank you!

SNOW ROLLERS

If you were one of the many who took a double take at the strange snow phenomenon in the yards of The Cottages in January, you saw something rare and fun.  We called them many things – snow tubes, snow balls, snow holes, but he official name is “snow rollers.”  It has been over a decade since our area has seen these because just the right conditions must be present for Mother Nature to create them.  A combination of wet snow, strong wind, and just the right temperatures is required to roll the snow into these spectacular hollow cylinders.  If you missed them, here are some photos to share.
