VIV AND FRIENDS

Viv Madera, sister-in-law of one of our residents, Margie Madera, entertained our residents in Febraury with a mix of music and instruments.  She plays the guitar and ukulele and coupled with her daughter, Brittany, they sang gospel, old time favorites, and took requests.  Our residents enjoyed hearing songs of long ago; Mockingbird Hill, You are My Sunshine, I Saw the Light, Do Lord, Country Roads and Tennessee Waltz are just a few of the favorites.  Also, patriotic songs such as Yankee Doodle Dandy, Grand Old Flag, and America were performed.
They held a captive audience for two hours!

One of our residents, Joe Agnello, was given a mic and sang along!

ACTIVITIES PROFESSIONALS WEEK

January 23 thru 27 was National Activity Professionals week. All activities employees in skilled care, MSU, and personal care wore tee shirts that were designed to honor the activity professional working in geriatric care.   We would like to thank this dedicated group of individuals for their devotion to filling the days of our residents with fun, love, happiness, and companionship.

STARLIGHT VOCAL DUO

The Starlight Vocal Duo definitely has a following....our residents LOVE them!  Not only their talent is admired, they are also members of the Activity Staff and we have residents coming out of the woodwork to see them!  They perform every other month and the practice sessions are fun too!

ALL ABOUT FEBRUARY...VOTING AND VALENTINE PARTY!

The residents decorated valentine voting boxes that were placed throughout the manor a week before the Valentine's Day and voting was solicited and encouraged from staff and residents.  During our party on Valetine's Day we announced three sets of Kings and Queens - one from each wing.  Refreshments that included strawberry shortcake and Pizza rolls left very little waste.  It is an enjoyable annual event for the residents and staff.

VALENTINE CRAFT

Valentine heart pins were the craft of the month in February.  Residents had fun decorating previously made stuffed felt hearts.  Each one was different and beautiful.  Activities staff was there as usual to help out when needed.

GOING ONCE, GOING TWICE, SOLD!

The activities department held an auction in January and it was FUN, FUN, FUN!  Conducted like a real auction, almost thirty residents actively participated.  They won a wide variety of items including statues, chocolates, lamps, clothes and much more!   Donation are gratefully accepted for these types of activities.

DUBOIS DREAM

Members of DuBois Dream, the only minor league professional basketball team in PA, spent some time at Christ The King as part of a community outreach visiting schools and other organizations in our community. The players who do not reside in DuBois are staying here for the season  and have traveled as far as Kentucky for their games. Albert Varacallo established the team this year with the help of his brother Dominic and although this is their first season professionally, the camaraderie they have developed is impressive. We thank them for spending time here visiting the residents and staff.
