GIRL SCOUT SILVER AWARD PROJECT AT CHRIST THE KING

Abby-Lynne Klaiber, great granddaughter of  Rose Buzard, is working on her Silver Award Project as a member of Girl Scout Troup 20111 from Brockway.  Abby is an 8th grade student at DuBois Area Middle School with extracurricular activities in wrestling and cheer leading.  Her project is to interview residents asking about their lives prior to Christ The King and creating an "All About Me" poster.  Abby's ambitions are to join the Air Force and eventually become a PA State Police Officer.

POSTER PAINTING - A FAVORITE!

Many of our residents love to express their artistic talents and poster painting  gives them an avenue to do that.  It is an all day affair with the help of the activities department as they create beautiful works of  art.

LABOR OF LOVE

Kathy Bowser, a new volunteer at CKM, made 16 beautiful quilted blankets for some very lucky residents.  Sewing is her favorite pastime and she has offered her talent to other projects that may need done.  Kathy is a familiar face at CKM since both of her parents, Leo and June Zawislack, were residents here.  Most mornings Kathy can be found in our skilled dining room helping residents with their breakfast.  Kathy also volunteers for Hospice making memory bears.  She worked at DRMC as an RN and retired from Jeff Tech as the school nurse after 20 years of service to them.

VALENTINE PARTY

Our annual Valentine's Day party is one of our most popular activities of the year.  We start early in February making old fashioned valentine boxes which are placed in our lounges for anyone and everyone to vote for the residents they want to be crowned King and Queen.  Our department plans a wonderful party with food, refreshments, prizes and most importantly the tally of the votes.  It is always a pleasure to watch the excitement of those who won.

Monthly Meal for February

The activities department prepared  homemade lasagna, salad, garlic toast and a dessert of bread pudding for a group our residents in February. Along with coffee, punch, beautiful decorations and table settings it was enjoyed by all.

Valentine Serenade

Paul Stephenson performed a concert of familiar love songs to our residents in February.  He always holds a captive audience with many who love to sing along with him.

The activities staff loves to work with themes and on Groundhog Day they served Groundhog Sundaes topped with Groundhog cookies brought in directly from Punxsutawney!  We are still waiting for the early spring Phil predicted that morning!
