BEGINNERS ART CLASS

Dom Aimino, resident and former art teacher, held an art class for beginners on January 14th.  A small group of residents were excited to have a professional give them tips on drawing.  Dom is willing to hold classes until he is discharged.

Althea Simpkins followed directions very carefully.

HONORING VETERANS

Pictured is a group veterans at CKM who were honored during our Veteran's Day celebration in November.

WELCOMING THE NEW YEAR

Paul Stephenson helped us bring in the new year with his presentation of "Rat Pack" music.  Everything from Frank Sinatra to Dean Martin to Sammy Davis Jr.  It was all fun!

CENTRAL CATHOLIC GIRL SCOUTS

The fourth and fifth grade girl scouts, led by Maria Noemi, entertained the residents with a Christmas performance. Singing, dancing, and treats...what a combination!

SINGING DUTCHMEN

New entertainment was introduced in December.  THE SINGING DUTCHMEN, a group from St. Marys, have been together for many years and sing a variety of music.  We look forward to having them back soon.

CHRISTMAS GIVING

On behalf of the residents at CKM we would like to thank everyone involved for making the Christmas holiday a comforting and spiritual time for our residents.  There are so many people to recognize we cannot begin to list them all, but the litany of special people include volunteers, staff, families, churches, veterans groups, scouts, entertainers, clergy, administration, auxiliary – and that list probably isn’t complete!  No resident at CKM was without love this year… as it is every year.  Our gratitude to everyone is great and our appreciation is sincere.  THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

DOMINICK AIMINO, LOCAL ART TEACHER

One of our recent admissions to CKM is no stranger to many of our staff. Teaching art at the DuBois school for 37 years, Dominick Aimino is remembered by many as their art teacher and they recall him fondly as a kind, gentle, and patient teacher.

Dom, who is an army veteran of the Korean War, attended Youngstown University in Ohio where he majored in art education.  He did his graduate work at IUP after accepting a position in 1967 as the District Arts Coordinator in the DuBois School District. In addition to his formal education, he has attended various classes in specific art medias with a special interest in fiber arts.

Dom retired his position as the District Arts Coordinator in 1992 while teaching until 1993.  He served three terms with the Pennsylvania Art Education Association, has participated in several art shows at local and national levels and earned several awards throughout the years. He is pictured with one of his works in fabric art that combines mixed medias and is displayed here at CKM in the therapy unit. He plans on teaching a few simple art classes to our residents while he is here and giving an art demonstration.

Dom has a studio on East Weber Avenue where he works with various paint mediums, pottery, ceramics, and fiber arts.  In addition to his art, he enjoys gardening and his garden was included in one of the tours for the Down to Earth Garden Club.  Dom is presently a member of the Building Up Dubois Sandy [BUDS] Garden Club.  He plans to return home after his rehabilitation at CKM.
